Brazilian jiu-jitsu

Health should ideally be an important part of the life of any software developer who is used to sit on a chair 10 hours a day. I gained too much weight these past two years for various reasons, and it is time for me to fix and lose that burden.

In the past, I practiced Judo, Aikido, Kendo, and Muay Thai, and I felt that those various experiences would be useful in choosing a new physical activity that would suit me.

After much consideration, I signed up to a local BJJ club (Brazilian jiu-jitsu), and it's been enlightening so far. The teachers and students are very respectful and really seek technical knowledge and practice, not fake belts and whistles.

I was also told to buy a kimono/gi/Keikogi from the Tatami brand. It's not an ad though, it just happened to be the cheapest BJJ clothes you can buy in my country, and I haven't found any alternative for beginners like me.

BJJ seems to be a healthy mix of Judo, Aikido, wrestling, and self-defense that aims to give you an overview of using your whole body to control and appease difficult situations, and this is what seduced me in that sport.

Last but not least, the fact that Ed O'Neill (the famous Al Bundy) being a black belt in that martial art was a strong inspiration too.
